The cross country season will begin on Monday, August 12. Many athletes have been putting some miles in over the summer, but we’re looking for anyone who wants to join to tie up their laces and hit the bricks. After a great 2018 season for the boy’s and girl’s teams we are looking to expand on that success and build a program that will keep improving in the years ahead. That means we need new runners to come out, work hard, and improve so they can one day fill the shoes of our seniors.
Practices for high school runners will begin Monday, August 12 and we will meet near the Kalkaska Middle School gym entrance. Dates and times for the first two weeks are as follows.
Monday and Tuesday, August 12 and 13: 7-8:30 pm
Wednesday, August 14: 4:30-5:30 pm (this has been changed from 5-5:45 pm as originally posted).
Thursday and Friday, August 15 and 16: 8-9:30 am
Saturday, August 17 we have a two mile race in Central Lake with girls starting at 10 am. A boys race follows. There is an open run after the boy’s race where anyone can run the two mile course (free of charge).
Monday, August 19: 5-6:30 pm/Team Picture Day
Tuesday-Friday, August 20-23: TBD based on what is going on with our runners as summer jobs and family vacations wind down. Plan on 8-9:30 am for now, as this lets us avoid the hotter afternoons.
Saturday, August 24: Pete Moss Invitational in Benzie
Athletes need a sports physical dated on or after April 15, 2019 in order to begin practice. Athletes also need $40 pay to play. Mrs Wiest will be at our first practice to collect the physical and pay to play. When these items are submitted students will be given a Blue Card which means they can participate in practices. You may not practice without the Blue Card.
