Blazers News · Kalkaska High School Announces 1st Annual “Guardian Game”

The 1st Annual “Annual Military Appreciation Night” is scheduled for 6:00PM Friday October 20, 2017 at the Kalkaska High School Football Field.  Kalkaska High School will be honoring Kalkaska HIgh School military Veterans that night starting with the dedication of a new flag pole and the raising of a flag that was flown over Camp Grayling. All assembled Veterans will be escorted onto the field of play and recognized for their selfless service and sacrifice for our nation.  There will be a very special tribute for our World War II Veterans.

All active and retired military personnel are invited, as guests of Kalkaska High School, to celebrate one of the great football rivalries in Northern Michigan when the Kalkaska Blazers host the Grayling Vikings for the coveted Guardian Game Trophy – a traveling trophy awarded to the winner of the rivalry game each year.

Additionally, the Michigan Heritage Foundation (MHF), in cooperation with the Kalkaska Public Schools, has taken the initiative to develop a Patriot Plaza on the High School Campus.  The Patriot Plaza will take will approximately one year to complete.  Phase One will be the dedication of the new flagpole within the Thomas J. Close Sports Complex that can be observed from every recreational field.

The Patriot Plaza is a tribute to those Kalkaska High School students who have served, are serving or will serve in the ArmedForces.  It will recognize their selfless service and sacrifice to our nation, state and community.  When completed, the Plaza will be a special place on the High School Campus to visit, reflect and honor the commitment to serve America.

The MHF is dedicated to honoring not only Veterans and their families, but promoting Americanism. Recent projects include partnering with Kalkaska Kiwanis to install Freedom Shrines at both Kalkaska and Forest Area High Schools, naming Veterans Highway, bringing The Moving Vietnam Wall back to Kalkaska for the third time in 2018 and developing Patriot Park overlooking Torch, Skegemog and Elk Lakes.

Anyone wanting to Help Pave the Way for the Patriot Plaza can purchase an inlaid brick that will commemorate a Kalkaska Service Member; or they make a contribution to the Michigan Heritage Foundation Patriot Plaza Fund.  Both brick and contribution are tax deductible.  For additional information contact:
